Abby Heslop: Crafting the Future of Boxer Brewing Co.

When Abby Heslop stepped into her role as Head Brewer at Boxer Brewing Co., she brought a wealth of expertise and a passion for craft beer shaped by nearly a decade in the brewing industry. As the daughter of Kim and Jon Heslop, owners of Witches Falls Winery, Abby was raised surrounded by the world of craft beverages. While she is also a qualified winemaker, it’s her brewing talents that truly set her apart.

Abby’s brewing journey began while earning her bachelor’s degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Adelaide. During her studies, she spent a pivotal year on exchange at the University of California, Davis. This experience immersed her in the vibrant U.S. craft beer culture, where creativity, collaboration, and bold experimentation were thriving. From hop-forward IPAs to innovative small-batch brews, Abby was inspired by the boundary-pushing spirit of the American craft beer scene and its ability to unite people around a shared love of beer.

Back in Australia, Abby completed a vintage at Elderton Wines in the Barossa during her final year of university. Although these experiences honed her winemaking skills, her passion for beer led her to Brisbane, where she joined Sea Legs Brewing as an assistant brewer. Abby quickly rose to Lead Brewer, a role in which she developed recipes and beers that resonated with customers. While at Sea Legs, she earned her Master Brewers Certificate from UC Davis, further solidifying her credentials in one of the oldest brewing programs in the U.S.

Abby’s career then took her to the UK, where she served as Lead Brewer at Wimbledon Brewery, deepening her expertise and contributing to the vibrant international brewing community. During this time, her father, Jon, was working on his dream of opening Boxer Brewing Co. Though there was no expectation for Abby to join, a family trip to Portugal and Morocco sparked discussions about the opportunity.

Now back on Tamborine Mountain, Abby is channeling her global experience into shaping Boxer Brewing Co.’s identity. Her innovative approach, passion for quality, and love for the craft shine in every brew, from her first Pilsener to exciting new creations. Abby remains committed to advancing the craft beer culture while forging her own path in the industry.
