Beer of the Month: The Brown Bear
For a moment, forget the crisp lagers and hazy hop bombs.
This month we're shining the spotlight on something with a little more depth, a little more character, and plenty of old-school charm. Meet The Brown Bear, our American Brown Ale.
The American Twist
While brown ale itself traces its roots back to the cosy pubs of 17th-century England, the American twist is a modern evolution. Fast forward to the 1980s, when the American craft beer revolution was in full swing. Never ones to leave a good thing alone, US craft brewers took that classic British profile, cranked up the malt complexity, and threw in bold, resinous West Coast hops.
The result is a richer, bolder take on a timeless classic. And after plenty of customer requests, The Brown Bear is finally back as our seasonal winter release.
Brewed for Poppy
Every great beer has a story. Ours begins with our head brewer's grandpa, affectionately known as Poppy, who has spent years reminding us that "they don't brew proper brown ales enough anymore."
Challenge accepted.
The result is an American Brown Ale that brings two generations together. It delivers all the comforting malt character Poppy loves, while layering in the bold Pacific Northwest hops our brewer can't live without. Tradition meets modern craft, and everyone wins.
What's in the Glass?
The Pour
Pour yourself a pint, and you'll be greeted by a deep chestnut-brown beer, with flashes of ruby, beneath a creamy off-white head.
The aroma is warm and inviting, opening with toasted biscuit, light caramel, and roasted nuts. Chinook, Centennial, and Willamette hops provide a fresh lift of pine, spice, and delicate florals that beautifully balance the malt.
The Taste
Rich biscuit, roasted malt, and gentle toffee sweetness create a velvety, full-bodied palate before the American hops cut through with resinous pine, earthy spice and a clean, refreshing bitterness.
The finish is long, smooth and just roasty enough to have you reaching for another sip.
The Verdict
Made for cooler days and long afternoons at The Kennel, there's no better time to pour yourself a pint. Book a table or grab a 4-pack online today.
