New Dog, Old Tricks: Say Hello to Old Tricks Stout

Rich and roasted, Old Tricks Stout is the ultimate winter brew. Loaded with comforting notes of dark chocolate and coffee, it’s built for the cooler months.

While Old Tricks Stout has earned a permanent, year-round spot at The Kennel, there’s no denying it hits different in the cooler months. We've brewed Old Tricks to be a timeless, dependable stout, and as we welcome winter, it makes perfect sense as June's Beer of the Month.

The name itself is a cheeky nod to the old saying, 'old dog, new tricks.' We didn't reinvent the wheel; we created a classic stout recipe and added our signature BXR touch, delivering a traditional dark beer with real character.

Rich, Dark, and Beautifully Balanced

Old Tricks settles deep black in the glass beneath a thick, creamy tan head, immediately inviting you into layers of rich, roasted malt character. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and subtle caramel are at the very heart of the brew, creating the smooth complexity and depth that dark beer lovers crave.

"The trick with a great stout is making it satisfying without being overly cloying or sweet," says our head brewer, Abby. "With Old Tricks, you get those awesome notes of fresh coffee and smooth dark chocolate. We really focused on giving it a big, full body that hangs around just long enough while still being super drinkable."

The Ultimate Winter Companion

While Old Tricks proves that a world-class stout does not need to wait for winter, there is no denying this beer truly shines during the cooler months. There's a reason people naturally gravitate toward stouts as the temperature drops. It’s an inherently indulgent beer. Between the creamy pour and that inviting, roasty aroma, it feels like a little afternoon reward, and on a cool day that comfort goes a long way.

Sitting at an easy 5%, it’s the kind of stout you can readily settle into for the afternoon. Delivering that smooth, familiar finish with plenty of drinkability, it's the perfect beer to accompany that crisp Tamborine Mountain air.

Grab some cans to enjoy at home alongside a hearty roast, or join us for the live sports with a creamy pint in hand at The Kennel.
